This piece was inspired by my visit to Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai China. I was struck by the contrast between the garden’s serene, mystical atmosphere and the vibrant, ornate traditional architecture surrounding it, a contrast I emphasized with a complementary red hue against lush greens. The upward-curving eaves of the buildings seemed to reach skyward, evoking the image of a soaring dragon, and the mist that enveloped the garden added to its ethereal charm.
This setting felt like an otherworldly realm, and I drew from East Asian paintings of clouds and dragons to incorporate swirling silver 3D curves on the nails, capturing the dynamic movement of clouds and dragons to enhance the design’s mystical, surreal atmosphere.
