Gache (加髢) is a traditional Korean wig worn by women during the Joseon Dynasty, known for its flowing, graceful curves. This piece captures the elegance of gache curves through transparent resin on the nails, as an attempt to reinterpret traditional aesthetics through the body. The transparency of the resin symbolizes a seamless connection between past and present, inner and outer worlds, illustrating the process of ancestral beauty and personal identity intertwining within the intimate space of the nails.
Just as our ancestors enriched the fullness of gache with binyeo and dwikkoji (traditional Korean hair ornaments), this artwork incorporates beeds chains and pearls, blending the depth of graceful curves with a modern touch. These adornments act as extensions of the body, visually embedding personal memories and identity onto the nails by transforming traditional curves into a contemporary form, symbolizing the revival of past aesthetics as part of the present body in a fusion of time and space.
가체(加髢)는 조선 시대 여성들이 사용한 전통 가발로, 자유롭고 유려한 곡선미가 돋보이는 헤어 스타일이다. 이 작품은 가체의 곡선을 투명한 레진으로 손톱에 새겨 전통 미학을 신체를 통해 재해석하려는 시도다. 레진의 투명함은 과거와 현재, 내면과 외부를 유기적으로 연결해, 손톱이라는 신체 공간에서 조상의 미학과 나의 존재가 자연스럽게 얽히는 과정을 표현한다.
조상들이 비녀와 뒤꽂이로 가체의 풍성함을 더했듯, 이 작품에서는 비즈 체인과 진주를 활용해 곡선미의 풍부함과 현대적 감각을 동시에 구현했다. 이 장식들은 손톱 위에서 전통적 곡선을 현대적으로 변형해 나만의 기억과 정체성을 시각적으로 각인하며, 과거의 미학이 현재의 신체 일부로 다시 태어나는 융합의 상징이 된다.
